Egyptian Art: Selected Writings of Bernard V. Bothmer

Bernard Bothmer was a driving force behind the Egyptian departments of, firstly, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and, later, the Brooklyn Musuem of Art for over sixty years. During those years he produced numerous influential articles on Egyptian art, particularly from the later period. This book presents an anthology of fifty articles written over the last fifty years, each of which is illustrated with large black and white photographs of the sculptures and reliefs discussed. The majority of articles focus on specific works of art, particularly in the Boston and Brooklyn museums, but more general discussions are also considered, such as trends in late Egyptian art, late Egyptian sculpture, apotheosis in late sculpture, forgeries, art from Nubia and northern Sudan, Old Kingdom funerary sculpture, Egyptian antecedents of Roman themes and Hellenistic elements in Ptolemaic sculpture.
