English Episcopal Acta: Worcester 1218-1268

The documents published in this volume were produced at a time of great concern for Church reform in the aftermath of the Fourth Lateran Council of 1215, and they constitute an important source of evidence for the practical results of this reform within the diocese. The volume contains the acta of three bishops: William of Blois; the eminent Walter de Cantilupe, friend of the great Robert Grosseteste and spiritual adviser to Simon de Montfort; and Nicholas of Ely, both royal treasurer and chancellor, later bishop of Winchester.
