Introductory Statistical Mechanics

The aim of this book is to explain the ideas and techniques of statistical mechanics in a simple and progressive way. Topics and exercises come from the author's course lectures and have been made accessible to undergraduates. Included are lectures on the first and second laws of thermodynamics; key ideas of probability and statistical mechanics; and the connection between the entropy and the number of quantum states. The reader is led through progressively more complex problems with full mathematical details explained.
