Life and Society in the Hittite World

Bryce explores the life and society of the Late Bronze Age Hittites, whose kingdom spanned some 500 years from the early 17th to the early 12th century BC in what is now Turkey. Only in the 20th century were the extent and importance of the people recognized, and their language identified as Indo-European. He especially emphasizes what can be known from texts and images about the daily lives of such people as scribes, farmers, warriors and gods; and aspects such as marriage, festivals and rituals, myth, and links across the sea.
