Beyond Continuity: Institutional Change in Advanced Political Economies

Political scientists and sociologists from Europe and the US investigate specific empirical cases of institutional change in the political economic or social institutions of advanced industrial societies, with an emphasis on producing general insights into the character and mechanisms of institutional change grounded in the empirical research within and across countries. Overall they provide a corrective to existing theoretical frameworks based on punctuated change, by showing how transformative changes can happen one step at a time, and draw attention to common modes of change that typically go unrecognized.
