Restoring the Classic in Sociology: Traditions, Texts and the Canon

Debates have raged over the role of classic texts in Sociology teaching and whether they should be discarded. Examining the case for and against, the author puts forward the intriguing hermeneutic idea that their persistence lies not in expressing eternal truths, but in the way history evokes in us a sense of their continuing relevance.
