Implementing Peace Agreements: Lessons from Mozambique, Angola, and Liberia

Nearly fifty percent of peace agreements break down before they can be implemented, and sometimes the war that resumes can be even worse than before. This book critically investigates the political, military, and economic conditions facing warring parties during the implementation of peace agreements in Mozambique, Angola, and Liberia. Bekoe analyzes the factors leading to decisions to proceed with peace or to resume war, and uses these three countries to highlight the incentives available to mediators and the international community to keep the peace process from faltering.
