Devil to Pay

Attorney Jack Darwin's life is unraveling. His law practice has dwindled to almost nothing. His beautiful wife has locked her bedroom door to him, but still spends so freely that Jack has had to tap into his inherited fortune. And his efforts to defend his latest client, a small time criminal, are nothing short of pitiful -- until he gets some unexpected help from David Avila, a fellow attorney who befriends him in a bar one night. When jack hits rock bottom -- accused of the rape/murder of a female law student -- his new friend kindly offers to defend him.

As the case progresses, though, Jack begins to have serious doubts as to his friend's real motives. This suspicion awakens his dormant self-assurance and Jack vows to fight back, trying not only to clear his name, but to come to a crucial understanding about his true strengths.
