At the Heart of the Union: Studies of the European Commission

The European Commission is very much at the heart of the European Union. Its large number of responsibilities and variety of roles make it the institution which is most readily identified with the Union's many different activities. The Commission therefore needs to be understood. Surprisingly, however, relatively little has been written about it. This book makes a major contribution to furthering understandings of the Commission by bringing together a broad range of different perspectives - each based on original research - looking at all aspects from recruitment to policy-making, from the Commission's history to its future prospects.
