Raising Boys' Achievement in Primary Schools: Towards and Holistic Approach

This book examines the issue of boys' apparent under-achievement at primary school level. It draws upon the research and intervention project Raising Boys' Achievement commissioned by the DfES. The book brings together theoretical and practical issues to examine how schools can develop approaches, in the classroom and within the broader school and community, which impact positively on the achievement of boys as well as girls.

The authors discuss which strategies are effective, how they are implemented and sustained, and what preconditions are necessary for all pupils to attain their academic potential. The strategies range from whole-school approaches which stress the importance of each school's socio-cultural context, to new approaches to the teaching of literacy.
