The Information Society: Evolving Landscapes

The social and human implications of computerization in society are dealt with in this book. It aims to be inter-disciplinary, holistic and normative and is primarily intended for university students taking courses on the social aspects of computing. In preparing the text, the editorial group assembled a list of major topics covering the broad range of as- pects. Topics include the ethics of computing, historical aspects of computing, politics and computing, computing from an economic perspective, artificial intelligence and the image of reality. An epilogue brings together again the various strands of the discussions, indicating a determination to explore the reshaping and restructuring of information technology to serve human needs.
