Becoming a professional musician , i.e., being a musician major, is difficult! The student
must take many music and non-music classes, attend rehearsals, practice privately,
and learn to efficiently manage time. (Just think of all those zero or one credit
classes–marching band–that consume so many hours of the day and week!) All
this is done while learning to communicate in a whole new language, the language of
music.
The Language of Music (Fundamentals) is designed to teach the “vocabulary” of
music through repetition and practice, just as someone might learn a foreign
language, such as Italian or German, through “emersion.” In this book, there are
typically two or more of each type of exercise so that one can be used for in-class
instruction, and another assigned as homework.
