Simpson Kalisher photographs are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the George Eastman House, the Jewish Museum New York, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Corcoran Gallery, the Everson Museum of Art, the Nelson-Atkin Museum, and the Milwaukee Art Museum as well as in corporate and private collections.

While his commercial work earned him awards, he sought a more personal truth in photography. It was this search that produced the photographs that now find their home in museums and collections as well as his books, the first of which is Railroad Men, photographs and collected stories, published in 1961 and in 1976, his second book, Propanganda and other Photographs.

No longer working professionally, Simpson Kalisher found the freedom to explore the thousands upon thousands of images he created in his past wanderings. They have taught him about himself and about photography. He has selected 63 images for inclusion in this new book, The Alienated Photographer.
