My book contains the experiences I encountered from the time I was forced to join the army through basic training and advanced infantry training to Vietnam and until I finished my two year stint in the army. I wanted my readers to follow me through my bouts with racism along with the people who helped me see white people in a different lite. I also wanted everyone to see the behind the scenes events that helped me mold my bout with the army personnel (racism ran amuck).
This book takes place in the army from the induction center in Detroit to Vietnam and back to Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
The main character is myself along with my good friend Ed. We are important to the story because we didn't accept the role as second class citizens. We tried to capitalize on what was presented to us. The reason I feel the book is important is because everyone wants to read about a black man who stood up for himself at all costs.
I also wanted to let people know that there isn't any such circumstance as race being tied to intelligence.
The reason for the book is to let people know about the cover-ups and wrong doings by enlisted men.
The thing that makes my book different from most all other books about Black men in Vietnam is I don't portray myself as a victim.
What I would like the reader to take away from my writings is the fact that second class citizenship was abolished with slavery and I am not house broken!
