The lack of knowledge and understanding surrounding mental illness keeps the church silent and crippled in many cases. Not understanding why people suffer from mental illness, fellow Christians often find themselves not knowing how to help or what to say. Mental illness isn't easily and neatly resolved and many people don't ask the necessary questions to help. The church also remains silent because of long held stigma and shame that mental illness has carried in our community. This book is designed to help the church begin to move forward by becoming more educated about mental illness. This book does not just have statistics and information concerning mental illness but practical ways in which the church can engage and minister to individuals and families affected by mental illness. Lastly, this book seeks to change the way mental illness is viewed in the context of religion.
