Veruska is the story of a young Czech woman, Vera (Veruska) born in the small Czechoslovakian town of Vysoke nad Jeserou. When she was eight years old her domineering father, Vladimir, announced that they were moving in with Babushka, Vera's grandmother, to manage the family transportation business. That was the year the war started, followed by the German occupation of Czechoslovakia. Prague became the "Fourth City of the Third Reich".
Vladimir, who worked as the Head Surgeon at the General Hospital, was able to shelter his family from the German atrocities.
