Adirondack Ice: A Cultural and Natural History

Ice has determined the course of Adirondack history in many surprising ways: from landscape to wildlife, harvesting to logging, barrel jumping to ice climbing and hail damage to ice storms. These accounts trace the history of that influence. The 360 page, soft cover book of personal stories, observations and over 200 black and white photos, is the author's tribute to a fast disappearing era.

At nearly 350 pages (including an index), Adirondack Ice is an excellent reference to a fading age. It's also a unique work of history reminiscent of Mark Kurlansky's histories of Salt, Cod, and Oysters. Because Tissot's Adirondack Ice, is more regionally (and some would say more appropriately) defined, it's an important local environmental and cultural history on par with works like Martin Podskoch's Adirondack Fire Towers, and Barbara McMartin's The Great Forest of the Adirondacks.
