Lifting The Veil

Phil Chase Weatherspoon very methodically dissects the elevated
American spirit experienced after 9/11 as well as indicators that may keep us from being our best when we are not faced with tragic circumstances. What exists in the human psyche when there is no Japanese tsunami for which to send aid, no Haitian earthquate victims to whom to send boxed goods, no tragedy of any sort to force us to be civil to one another?

After 9/11, America experienced brotherhood from sea to shining sea - for a time. We can be a better nation and better individuals if we study, learn, and apply the lessons presented in Weatherspoon's text. Perhaps in so doing, we can best the terrorists who aimed for America's demise and, a decade later, perhaps we can begin to forever lift the veil of fear that has shrouded us for so long.
