On the eve of the Second World War the 1939 New York World's Fair clamorously opened. With its Trylon and Perisphere, and epochal Futurama, the Fair promised nothing less than deliverance, courtesy of aerodynamic design and happy technology. Here once-in-a-lifetime miracles routinely occurred.

Dream of Venus (Or Living Pictures) is the invented history of a lost tomorrow into which the Fair's president Grover Whalen, Albert Einstein, and New York Mayor Fiorello La Guardia pop in and out; an account set in a mad, delusive place Einstein called "the riddle of futurity disguised as a roller coaster ride."
