Boys of Warriors

Under the cloak of darkness, the camouflaged silhouettes descending from a C-130 on a High Altitude, Low Opening "HALO" jump might appear to be an interchangeable assembly of faceless, highly trained special ops experts. But step inside Joint Task Force Alpha and you will soon discover that a team of commandoes is comprised of men who each individually possess personalities as unique as their military skill sets. Boys of Warriors is a remarkable new work of historical fiction that affords a rare, realistic look at these extraordinary men who serve their country in anonymity, risking their lives in the world's most dangerous places, under impossible odds and arduous conditions.

Set largely in Afghanistan and the Philippines in the five years following the September 11th attacks, Boys of Warriors presents a series of fictitious stories based in part on fact that bring to life a multi-service military unit, Team Alpha. All of the main characters are Navy SEALs, and are true individuals who work and play well with each other, but not with the outside world or even the rest of the Special Warfare community for that matter. Among them are Ricky from south Texas, who is seemingly immune to pain and also painfully funny; Rabbit, a refugee from a ramshackle West Virginia family who was raised by multiple fathers and a mother with dubious moral standards; Flick, the obliviously unaware country boy who might appear as goofy as PFC Gomer Pyle, if not for his pronounced tendency to buck any authority not wearing a Trident; teammates Potter, the sniper and Daddy-O, the spotter; and Lieutenant Jack Wilson, a six-foot-five-inch "boss" and family man. Finally, there is Chief Mac, a short, underappreciated hero who serves as the main character and apparent author of Boys of Warriors.

Chief Mac knows firsthand that it is easy to kill someone. To capture and remove someone from their homeland to a distant locale for interrogation, however, requires the skills of a true expert with impeccable training and flawless execution. Whether on base or in the field, Mac is serious and all business, but he is also adept at outside-of-the-box thinking, which enables him to see past the quirks and idiosyncrasies of his men, and draw them together as a coherent and integrated team.

Boys of Warriors is as much the story of these anonymous heroes at work capturing high value intelligence assets and diligently protecting an unknowing, oblivious American public, as it is the personal stories of the members of Team Alpha, cataloguing their trials and tribulations dealing with their jobs, family, death, and joy. It is a heartfelt tale of highly memorable characters, who are as unique as they are funny, confronting deadly missions and the hazards of home life alike with humility, humor, and honesty. Boys of Warriors is the true-to-life story of how men interact with each other, their families, and difficulty, when carrying out the serious business of Special Operations.
