After earthquakes heave up caskets at Oakwood Cemetery, five children are found alive. Sgt. David Straus is called to the gruesome scene unable to imagine who could have buried them. David vows to identify the children and reunite them with their families. He vows to track down the abductors.

David soon discovers that the children, ages six months to nine years, were indeed dead and buried sixteen years ago and through some phenomenon have been brought back to life...LS5. He discovers, as well, that two of the children are orphans and a strong bond grows between them. David falls in love and they become the family he could never have.

As David and a small team of doctors and scientists continue to unravel the mystery, all persons involved agree that the rebirth should be kept secret to spare the children from religious extremists, overwhelming media and the public in general. The foremost goal- guard the secret and make the children's second life as normal as possible.

All goes well until David must include the mortician, Harold James, inside the privileged circle.
