The Tale of Betwixt

Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the citizens of Betwixt fear that their remote mountain town-with its one stoplight, its coal-shed library, and its brand-new Piggly Wiggly grocery store-may be next. When local oddball Messenger ("Mess") Harkness, a handyman who breaks more than he fixes, clashes with the sheriff over homefront leadership, Betwixtians begin to take sides-setting into motion a chain of events that make them wish they had been attacked by the Japanese!
