August 1712: During a British slave raid, to kidnap boys, in Aberdeen, Scotland, a cunning merchantman captured young women, at market. They were sold at auction, in Inverness, among them, an Irish rabbi's daughter.

Garth Mackintosh, laird, father of two daughters, and widower, purchased Amalie to spare her slavery and abuse. He intended to send her home to Dublin. He was ill prepared for the effect she had on all their lives.
