Dave was born in Africa. He is an inconvenience to his American parents, who are foreign aid workers. While Dave's parents labor to rescue Africa from itself, Africans rescue Dave from his parents.

Like most children of expatriates, in Africa, Dave grows up knowing that one day he will have to leave the only home he knows and go to the America that his birth-parents call home.
