"I've waited too long to decide to come out and live among gays and lesbians. I was almost giddy last night just being one in the great crowd. I felt at home; you've probably heard that before." She sipped her drink and looked toward the door, wondering if Rachael would be coming in soon.
"Yes, and have learned many life stories. Thankfully, more are positive stories today but in earlier days, there was a lot of sadness. One young man broke my heart. He so needed his parent's approval when he came out, but it never came. He jumped off the nearby overpass in front of an eighteen-wheeler. Thank God, fewer tragedies like that are happening now." Ed leaned on his arms, looked around for any customers needing to be served; then smiled at Silvia. "You have a great air of confidence in being who you are, Silvia."
Silvia smiled, "More than at any other time in my life. I've known since my teen years but there never seemed to be the time or place to acknowledge my heart. Now that my kids are grown and gone their own paths, I've found my best path to happiness, I think." Her eyes sparkled.
