Healing From Hurt: A Memoir of Healing from Child Abuse

Raised by parents that met in a ward of a psychiatric hospital, Scotty O'Brien recounts the story of his dysfunctional childhood, detailing the years of physical, emotional and verbal abuse at the hands of his mentally ill mother and a father that served as an enabler of the abuse at home. A troubled, bipolar child himself, Scotty found little safety in the arms of his violent, mentally ill mother and eventually attempted to end his own life as a teenager.

A series of broken relationships later, Scotty realized that their pattern of abuse had extended far beyond his childhood. With the help of his family, friends and a dedicated psychologist, Scotty realized that he would have to stop the cycle in order to succeed.
