Mommy's Missing

In 1946, a young female reporter, tall and dark-haired, hears a scream at a swanky hotel, sending her into an emotional tailspin. Memories of her own attack on VJ day in Dixon, Illinois cripple her. Mercedes Poole fears her rapist has returned to haunt her.

Meanwhile, a dishonorably discharged GI continues his crime sprees in northern Illinois. He abducts an attractive doctor's wife and mother of three children. The reporter, Poole is certain he's the lanky man who left her for dead and she won't stop until he answers for all his crimes.

MOMMY'S MISSING is a dark tale, which follows the reporter and the kidnapper's movements before and after, he abandoned his pregnant wife in late 1946 to go on another crime spree.

The criminal is chilling. His methods are scary, his psychopathy convincing and believable, and his crimes -- in an era before trace evidence and DNA -- convincingly hard to solve.

I can definitely sympathize with the reporter, Mercedes. I could imagine how difficult it was for her in that time (1946) as independent as she was.

The story evokes a weird, strange fascination - almost a morbid fascination with hard-boiled cynical characters and bleak sleazy settings.
