I remember my mother singing those words to me long ago, long before she went to Xerena herself. Now, Grandmother sings them to me. I am the only child of the chief, his daughter and yet, his heir. And as his heir I must become something I am not. I must become a man. I must face the testing. I must hunt the great mammoth. I must do as I am told.

But I long for the peace of Xerena. I long for what I cannot have, for what the Mighty One has denied me. But perhaps one day, if I become chief, I shall find all I long for.
