The Reluctant Daughters

The daughter of a wealthy Irish immigrant, Elizabeth Ackert is shunned by society in 19th century New York. Assaulted and humiliated by the son of a powerful Albany family, her life is forever changed. When she learns he is running for president years later, she sets out to thwart his efforts, using their daughter and granddaughters to help destroy him. The story takes the reader on journeys from Albany to New York City, through Europe and then across America and culminates at the presidential campaign of 1900 in Kansas City.
