On Encountering Sorrow

In his debut book of poetry, Kenyan poet, Gathu Wahome, captures not only the heart and soul of his native Kenya, but he strikes a universal chord as well. He creates a vivid image of the human condition through alternating poems of love and life with those of war and history. In doing so, Wahome creates a tapestry of perfectly balanced personal and historical poems. Interspersed throughout the book are poems written in his native language of Gikuyu .

Gathu offers his volume of poetry to uplift spirits and minds. He says," The struggle for self-determination has largely gone unsung.
