On The Wings Of Dragonflies

On Thanksgiving morning, 2003, my twenty-two year old daughter was killed by a drunk driver. My life, which until then had been fairly smooth and predictable, fell apart. Though a clinical psychologist, I was unprepared for the upheaval. How was I to survive the pain?

Out of the ashes-that's how I think about my journey. From such a dark and dismal space, I wrote my way back to a place of peace and light. Words about grief and loss and chaos evolved into a memoir that melds together my daughter's writings; memories about our life; my path in dealing with Rebecca's death; and the wisdom of theologians, authors, and philosophers. On the Wings of Dragonflies is a story of resilience, love, and forgiveness. It is a story of survival.

None of us are impervious to loss. The opportunity to heal brings with it the responsibility to share that growth with others. My hope is that those who have endured the loss of a loved one will find strength and courage from my experience.
