Annabelle Hollister is shocked and runs back to Stanford as quickly as possible. Thanks to the help of a therapist, she begins working out her relationship issues in between the pages of her diary. As the school term continues, she makes friends with Jennifer Baxter, a TA in the economics department. Friendships develop as both women and their friends enjoy life off campus. Circumstances present themselves that cause Annie to question many things in her life, her sexuality being one.
As the years progress, Annabelle meets the man she will eventually marry and have two daughters, Haley and Willow. As time goes by, Annabelle finds that her marriage is based on lies and deceit. Jennifer begins a relationship with Annie's nanny, Taylor, and within a few months Taylor leaves her employee to work for Jennifer who has become Utah's newest Senator.
Jennifer marries and begins her family with Malcolm Greay as Annie's marriage ends. Annie uses this time to exert her independence so she can reclaim her dreams and be a good role model for her daughters.
While this is a work of contemporary women's fiction, it is also a bridge novella with the LBGT genre.
