Fireflies in the Dark: A memoir

As a young man, Lasantha escapes from a brutal patriarchy in Sri Lanka to come to the United States on a full scholarship to become a celebrated Broadway star. In rainy Tacoma, he meets his nemesis, Kyle, and enters into a traumatic relationship. In a few months, after being callously abandoned by Kyle, Lasantha is diagnosed with a chronic, degenerative, incurable neurological disease. Despite the bleakness of the journey that awaits him, Lasantha carries within him a tiny spark, reminiscent of the fireflies in his vibrant, childhood memories.
