Mary Mitchell Blair was the daughter and the wife of wealthy Chicago bankers. By the end of the 19th century, she had assembled an internationally acclaimed art collection. By the standards of her upbringing and social status her life was conventional. What is not conventional is her obsession with the acquisition of the most beautiful book in early Christendom.
