Scarlet and her second grade class follow the adventures, mystery, and seemingly magical ways of their substitute teacher. Scarlet wakes up after a long weekend of fun. She is excited to share her trinkets for star of the week and see her teacher, Mrs. Dorris. Everything changes when she finds out she has a substitute for the day. And it's not the nice pretty one. It's the grouchy mean one that's rumored to be a real witch---Mrs. Finchy. Mrs. Finchy's wild antics, strict nature, and crazy hair make the rumors seem true. Through science experiments, a paper mache project, quiz contests, and an outlandish Halloween party, Mrs. Finchy gets the class to learn in new ways.
