In this stellar work Author Cynthia discusses how some behavior are associated with a much broader range of outcomes than physical consequences like sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy. For example, here are some of the sign and symptoms she gave when sexual intercourse with a non-dating partner is involved; lower self-esteem; lack of confidence; and no self-worth. She also emphasizes the importance of understanding the consequences of sexual behavior for it could affect the mental and social well- being of young people emerging into adulthood. This could damage what could be a beautiful experience. She stated that there are several ways that one can determine if they are ready to start having sexual intercourse. Once you decide that you are ready for sexual intercourse, you will need to discuss concerns and expectations with your partner and make a plan for protecting yourselves. By doing so it will help ensure that your first time will be safe and enjoyable.
The main gist or message in this book however, has to do with dealing with sexual violence against young women and children. This evil that damages our young people many times unreported, and when its reported the crime is so heinous that the parents of the children choose not to believe it. The crime is often covered up for fear of exposing the only breadwinner in the family unit. Often times the act has damaged several other members of a family before coming to light. The author tells her gut wrenching story of being a victim of such a monstrous crime, and the resulting consequence that leads to her making difficult life choices. This book is one that every young person should obtain.
