In his mind, Charles is in a cage. After escaping the caves, which is a prison, he isn't welcomed into Greensburg. But he arrives. And after a controversial court case, and a riot chasing him around Massachusetts, Charles must settle matters which lead to death, or running.

"The floor was colder than a blizzard and was rougher than a tree stump. I myself wasn't alone in the room, which frightened me. A man with a gigantic beard, larger than a rock anyone's ever seen, was on the other side of the room and stared down at the floor.
