Uta Barth

Berlin native Uta Barth (1958- ) now lives in Los Angeles, and is recognized as one of the most influential photographers in the contemporary art world. Illustrated with some 160 color photographs, this monograph on the artist and her work includes essays by Matthew Higgs (CCAC Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art, San Francisco), Pamela M. Lee (art history, Stanford U.), and Jeremy Gilbert-Rolfe (fine arts, Art Center, Pasadena); extracts from Joan Didion's Democracy (1984), chosen by Barth for the text; and a selection of writings by the artist which mirror her unique observations on vision, perception, and photography.
