Concrete

Concrete presents 170 concrete projects organized into themes such as Landscape, Juxtaposition and Light, helping the reader to understand the different qualities of the material. Images have been selected carefully to illustrate a particular element of the structure, further reinforced by the accompanying caption, which is anecdotal, technical or descriptive in content. Each caption also lists the building name, architect, location and date of completion.

The book opens with a 2,000 word introductory essay by Leonard Koren, offering a personal response to theme of concrete. Written in an accessible and engaging way, Koren's introduction explores concrete buildings aesthetically and psychologically, drawing on personal experience.

The list of project covers everything from monuments and churches to bus stations and crematoriums, and includes some of the most innovative and inspirational concrete projects from all over the world. Featuring iconic structures from great architects such as Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright, Concrete has been carefully designed to create specific pairings of projects to invite further discussion, as well as a large number of double page spreads.
