Descent

Concluding the series inspired by key Christian events as seen through great art (see also: Annunciation, Last Supper, and Crucifixion), DESCENT is an intimate survey of images of the Descent from the Cross, as depicted in over 100 ways by the masters of western art. From the earliest manuscripts of c.900 to minimalist painting and abstract sculpture of the 20th century, this selection of artwork is a source of meditation on the Christian story. Descent includes works by Duccio, Donatello, Hans Memling, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Eric Gill and Barnett Newman, among many other artists.
