Gemma

In the late sixties a girl who had a child out of wedlock was regarded by many people as cheap and uncaring. Many were sent away until the baby was born to save the parents from disgrace, but the heartache of the girls who had their babies adopted remained with them for the rest of their lives. Marie was one of the less unfortunate ones. After her daughter, Gemma, was adopted she settled down with a decent man and started a family. The one cloud over their happy life together was the thought, never absent, of her missing daughter – Gemma.
