I believe that the family is an arena in which we work out our Karma. “It’s Not The Role You Play:It’sWho You Are --- Surviving The Family Mission” is about that arena and the Karma within it that I was impelled to play out. When I made a commitment to my paralyzed father, who retired at the untimely age of eighty-four, I leaped into the void, followed a road I knew nothing about, and slowly over fourteen isolating years, with the help of a brilliant therapist, took control back from a family who felt entitled to my soul.
