In the mid-1980s two metal detectorists unearthed a huge hoard of bronze artefacts in a field near Salisbury, but over the years rumour of it reached the archaeological world. This book is a detective story, telling how the rumours were gradually substantiated, the finders indentified and convicted, the original site located and re-excavated, and over half the 600 artefacts recovered. Not only is it the second largest hoard of Bronze Age objects ever found in Britian, but its amazing chronological range is without parallel. Objects from the third, second and first millennia BC were collected together in the Iron Age and buried around 200BC. Despite its importance, knowledge of the hoard was almost lost - with artefacts scattered by metal-detectorists, dealers, auction-houses and collectors. Thanks however, to Ian Stead's dogged persistance, over half the hoard has now been recovered. Un-put-downable!
