The Calder and Hebble Navigation

The River Calder rises in the Pennines north of Todmorden and flows down to the Aire and Calder Navigation at Wakefield, being joined by the Hebble Brook on the way. The river was made navigable in the 1770s, and this photographic album shows the canal boats, both horse drawn and motor-powered, and the diversity of wharfs and infrastructure to be seen, with fascinating archive images supported by an informative text.
