This is part of a series on South Wales Collieries, which illustrates the area's industrial history during the past 200 years, in text and photographs, and gives a glimpse of both working and village life in the valleys. This fourth volume covers the central valleys of Merthyr, Glamorganshire, to the eastern valleys of Rhymney, Sirhowy, Ebbw, and Afon Lwyd, including Big Pit at Blaenavon, a World Heritage Site and location for the National Mining Museum of Wales.
