Remapping Asian American History

Eleven American academics contribute 12 chapters reflective of trends emerging in the 1990s in the writing of Asian American history, characterized by efforts to fill significant gaps in the knowledge of Asian immigrants from regions other than the Pacific coast and by conceptual shifts in the frameworks scholars use to interpret their findings. A sampling of topics: Chinese American experiences in a Lowell, Massachusetts, from 1876-1967; revisiting New York's Chinatown, 1900-1930; IQ, Japanese Americans, and the model minority myth in the 1920s and 1930s; state policies, gender, and the global context of Filipino migration to the U.S.; and politics and the Indochinese refugee exodus, 1975-1997.
