Resisting Racism and Xenophobia: Global Perspectives on Race, Gender, and Human Rights

Creating an atmosphere in which the full achievement of human rights can be possible requires considering those rights not as abstract concepts but as the outcome of the intersections between race, gender, class and nationality. This collection of 14 articles include a reflective article on finding strategic identities in an unequal world from the point of view of an Indian feminist, Dalit women, aboriginal Australians, women of color in Missouri, single mothers in the Americas, exoticized sex workers, those with HIV/AIDS affected by gender and race in Africa, Zanzibari women who have been subjected to sexual violence, immigrant African women in Canada, and those with "different" identities in a European world of difference. Other topics include changes wrought in and out of Haiti, the failure of diversity training, women-centered coalitions against racism, and the means of confrontation and resistance against occupation.
