Doing Research: Methods of Inquiry for Conflict Analysis

Druckman (conflict resolution, George Mason U.) is mindful of the unique needs of practitioners and students in this rapidly-growing field. He reviews the methods and tools of social science research and examines the reasons for doing research on conflict, its norms and assumptions, and ways to find and select topics and set up an approach. He describes performing experiments, including designing them and conducting simulations; evaluating data; designing and conducting surveys; doing case-based research; writing ethnographies; and analyzing both content and narrative in documents. In closing he describes the processes of transition from philosophies to research and then to action—evaluating interventions and applying research in conflict resolution.
