Governing as Governance

Dutch scholar Kooiman (Erasmus University, Rotterdam) uses the concept of governance as an instrument for conceptualizing issues occurring on the boundaries between state, market, and civil society. He begins with a discussion of the effects of interactions between public and private governing actors. He then goes on to analyze the relationships between the day-to-day activities of governing, the institutions in which these activities take place, and the larger norms and principles of governing.
