Person-Centred Therapy in Focus

Person-centered therapy, based on the work of Carl Rogers, is widely misunderstood as an approach in which a therapist is simply "nice" to patients, listening with a sympathetic ear but doing little else. Wilkins (Manchester Metropolitan U., UK) counters the view by laying out what the approach is and is not; he examines some of the most frequently encountered criticisms of person-centered therapy, and answers them. The work is a defense, not an introduction; Wilkins assumes familiarity with the particular language of the person-centered practice but in his preface recommends basic texts for those who want to know more.
